Restoring History: Key West Lighthouse with Antique Heart Pine

When the iconic Key West Lighthouse and its 1840s Keeper’s Quarters needed critical restoration, Albany Woodworks was chosen for its expertise in antique heart pine and cypress. Our reputation for providing authentic, high-quality reclaimed wood made us a key partner in the project.

Originally built in 1826, the 65-foot lighthouse has a rich history, including being maintained by a female keeper, an uncommon role in the 19th century. By the 1980s, both the lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters required extensive restoration to preserve their authentic 1901-1915 appearances.

As part of a three-year restoration project led by the Key West Art & Historical Society, Albany Woodworks’ antique Dade County Heart Pine was used to repair and restore the structures. The result is a beautifully preserved piece of history that continues to stand as a testament to Florida’s maritime past.
